The EU countries have helped Moscow to finance 1.5 years of war by buying Russian energy sources.

Although the EU countries began to reduce their dependence on Russian energy products after the start of the full-scale invasion, they continued to import them. In total, the money Russia earned from energy exports to the EU enabled the aggressor to pay for18 months of hostilities. As of October 19, 2024, the total value of the EU’s energy imports from Russia since the war began is €204B. Russia’s daily spending on war is €36.6M.

The Top Lead agency demonstrated which countries have paid Moscow and how much. Germany spent the most and sent nearly €28.7B to Moscow, enough to pay for 79 days of hostilities. In second place was Italy, which paid the Russian Federation €19.3B, enough for 53 days of war. The Netherlands is in third place and bought €18.8B worth of energy supplies from the Russian Federation, ensuring 52 days of hostilities. The top five also include Hungary and France, which paid Russia €17.5B and €15.8B, respectively, enough for 48 and 44 days of war. The top ten are rounded out by Belgium, Slovakia, Greece, Poland, and Spain.
