The Bundestag states that the $50B loan for Ukraine is a bonus, not a replacement for German aid.
The chairman of the Bundestag’s foreign affairs committee, Michael Roth from Olaf Scholz’s party, said that the $50B loan for Ukraine planned by international partners should go to Ukraine in addition to the existing bilateral military aid from Germany, not instead of it.
At the same time, Roth notes that this year the German government has allocated €7.5B for military aid to Ukraine, in 2025 €4B is planned, and by 2027, this amount will be reduced to €0.5B. “This raised doubts about Ukraine and among our partners in Central and Eastern Europe regarding the reliability of Germany.
It is right to demand from the aggressor to pay in the future and to use the revenues from the frozen Russian assets to finance the military support of Ukraine.” However, the politician emphasized that the new international financial instrument of €46 billion “exists only on paper.” Roth added that the frozen Russian assets are intended to save Ukraine’s freedom, not the federal budget.
