The bridge across the Tisza between Romania and Ukraine will be completed by June, and 16 new checkpoints will be built within the next five years.

Romania will complete construction on a road bridge across the Tisza to Ukraine by June, after which the Bila Tserkva-Sighetu Marmatiei checkpoint will open for truck service in August, said the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Administrative Organization, Myroslav Biletsky.

The new border crossing should ease congestion at the existing Dyakovo-Halmeu and Solotvyno-Sighetu-Marmatiei checkpoints in Transcarpathia and simplify border crossing in both directions. In addition, negotiations are ongoing to open the Yablunivka checkpoint on this section of the border.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers, Ukraine plans to allocate funds for the construction of 16 international road checkpoints on the border with the EU and Moldova by 2030. At the end of 2024, the passage of persons and vehicles across the western state border of Ukraine is carried out through 41 checkpoints for road traffic through checkpoints in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova.
