Sweden will provide Ukraine with €6.5B under a security agreement and consider transferring Gripen aircraft.

A security agreement signed on May 31 between Ukraine and Sweden will provide Kyiv with SEK 75B (€6.5B) in military aid, and it also stipulates the prospect of transferring JAS 39 Gripen aircraft to Ukraine. Sweden will provide the specified military aid from 2024-2026, amounting to approximately €2.2B per year. The aid amount will increase during the ten-year term of the document. Sweden plans to transfer Archer artillery systems and CV90 combat vehicles to Ukraine and will consider establishing joint production in the future.

“A unique part of the agreement is the provision of specialized ASC 890 aircraft, as well as the prospect of transferring JAS 39 Gripen aircraft to Ukraine,” the Zelenskyy administration noted.

Sweden will also support the development of Ukraine’s modern defense and industrial potential and develop bilateral cooperation on the localization, repair, maintenance, and production of Swedish defense systems in Ukraine. Moreover, Sweden has confirmed its support for Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO.
