Sweden has provided Ukraine with a record $1.26B military aid package with radar reconnaissance aircraft: What does it change?
The Ministry of Defense of Sweden, in addition to supplying the ASC 890 aircraft, has provided its entire stock of Pansarbandvagn 302 (PBV 302) armored personnel carriers. The package also includes, RB-99 (AMRAAM) missiles, which can be used both on aircraft and in ground air defense systems, 155 mm artillery ammunition, tanks, and resources for the maintenance of previously transferred equipment.
The ASC 890 aircraft is an advanced long-range radar detection aircraft that provides Ukraine with new aerial radar reconnaissance and combat control capabilities for targets in the air and at sea. The radar installed on the ASC-890 can track ships, aircraft, and missiles at ranges of up to 300-400 km at an altitude of 6,100 m.
These aircraft will not likely see direct use in Ukraine’s airspace due to the threat of damage, but will be utilized from the airspace of border countries. The aircraft’s capabilities will give Ukraine additional opportunities for more effective use of F-16 and other aircraft against Russia.
