State banks were the most profitable through 11 months of 2024; the banking sector increased its tax payments by 70%.

According to the NBU, solvent Ukrainian banks generated ₴131B ($3.2B) in net profit after tax from January-November 2024. The leaders in the banking sector were: PrivatBank with ₴56.3B, Oschadbank with ₴12.8B, and Raiffeisen Bank with ₴6.95B. These three combined for almost ₴75B in total banking sector profit.

The top ten also includes Ukreximbank (₴6B), Credit Agricole Bank (₴5.9B), FUIB (₴5.8B), Universal Bank (₴5.5B), Ukrgasbank (₴5B), Citibank (₴4.5B) and Ukrsibbank (₴4B).

Following their performance over those eleven months, Ukrainian banks will pay ₴44.52B in income tax, which is 70% more than in the same period in 2023. Of this amount, a record ₴7B falls on November – after the tax increase from 25% to 50%. Of this, ₴4.47B, or 63%, comes from banks with foreign capital. In total, banks’ profit before taxes amounted to ₴175B (+12%).

At the same time, 11 banks suffered losses totaling ₴388M. Currently, 18% of Ukrainian banks are unprofitable.
