Starmer pledges unprecedented military aid for Ukraine this year and states that Britain will play a “full role” in the peace process in Ukraine.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has indicated that the UK will provide more military support to Ukraine in 2025 than in the three previous years. The UK had previously announced plans to deliver unprecedented levels of military assistance to Ukraine this year, having already committed $3.6B in lethal weapons to Kyiv.
“We must do everything we can to support Ukraine’s defense. That means stabilizing the front line and providing the necessary equipment and training,” Starmer stated.
A few weeks earlier, the UK and Ukraine signed a historic 100-year partnership agreement covering cooperation in multiple areas including military, energy, scientific, cultural, and economic.
Starmer also emphasized that the UK would play a “full role” in peacemaking efforts in Ukraine, including deploying British troops to monitor a ceasefire if one is achieved.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian parliament ratified a framework agreement with the UK establishing official credit support for the development of Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
