SpaceX has limited Starlink internet for the Ukrainian military.
SpaceX took steps to prevent the Ukrainian army from using the company’s Starlink satellite internet service to fly drones in the region during the country’s war with Russia, SpaceX President Gwynn Shotwell said. She said Starlink was never intended to be used as a weapon, so the company imposed operational restrictions. She specified that the Ukrainians used the Internet for combat missions “unintentionally and not as part of any agreement.” Starlink’s use of drones is outside the scope of the agreement between SpaceX and the Ukrainian government, as the contract is for humanitarian purposes, such as providing broadband Internet to hospitals, banks, and families affected by the Russian invasion, Shotwell added. The Office of the President of Ukraine said that SpaceX management finally needs to choose whose side it is on, Ukraine or Russia.
