Since the war began, Ukraine has lost 24% of its tourist tax revenue.
Specifically, the state’s tax revenue has dropped from UAH 235.5M to UAH 178.9M, and the decrease was recorded in 14 regions of Ukraine, reported tourism.gov. These are the regions that were or are in the war zone and are temporarily occupied.
Tourists pay tourist tax to local budgets for each day of stay in hotels, camping sites, etc. In the west of Ukraine, the collection increased due to internal migration.
As a result, the Lviv region became the collection amount leader with UAH 41.4M and in terms of its increase, 79%. For comparison, Kyiv collected only UAH 31.5M from the tourist tax, half as much as a year earlier.
Other top leaders in tourist tax revenue are Transcarpathia with UAH 19.5M, the Ivano-Frankivsk region with UAH 18M, and the Cherkasy region with UAH 12.6M.
