Shockingly low farmer participation in the Ukrainian land market.
Monday, January 24, 2022
From 1% to 3% of Ukrainian farmers participate in the land market, which has been operating since July 2021, stated the head of the Union of Ukrainian Farmers, Ivan Tomych. There is no such thing anywhere else in the world. According to the law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on the Circulation of Agricultural Land”, farmers have the right to buy a plot that has been issued for permanent use. The cost of such a plot will be set in accordance with the state cadastral assessment. However, less than 100 out of 20,000 Ukrainian farmers have bought back plots that were in permanent use. In particular, the united territorial communities state that they do not even have open accounts to which farmers could transfer funds.
