Seven Ukrainian nuclear power plant power units now operate on Westinghouse fuel.
According to plan, all 15 power units should transition to this fuel by 2024. According to the state company Energoatom, Ukraine’s nuclear power industry will gain absolute independence from the Russian Federation. In addition, the state company and Westinghouse are working on creating an in-house nuclear fuel production system using Westinghouse technology. This will not only strengthen the safety of nuclear fuel supplies to domestic nuclear power plants but also contribute to improving fuel quality and increasing its energy output, noted Energoatom. In November 2022, Energoatom became the operator of the future nuclear installation that will be responsible for the production of heat-separating assemblies for NPP reactors, and in December, the company developed and agreed on a roadmap for the construction of a technological complex where these assemblies will be produced.
