Scholz feels that Ukraine will not join NATO in the foreseeable future but will receive Western weapons after the war.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke about the prospects of Ukraine’s membership in NATO in an interview with Welt. “In Bucharest in 2008, NATO adopted decisions that formulated a long-term perspective. However, it is clear to everyone that this will not happen in the foreseeable future”.

The German chancellor said that one of the main reasons is that there are several conditions in NATO’s criteria that Ukraine cannot currently fulfill. At the same time, according to Scholtz, Ukraine will be equipped with Western weapons after the war’s end, which will become part of Ukraine’s security guarantee.
