Scholz explains his position on Ukrainian aid, but Ukraine insists that Taurus missiles could change the war’s dynamics.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz denied claims that he was blocking new assistance to Ukraine and added that the draft 2025 German budget provides €12B for Ukrainian aid. At the same time, Scholz stressed that financing such aid should not be carried out by reducing funding for Germany’s domestic programs.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha called on Germany to reverse its decision and transfer long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine. He added that removing all restrictions on the use of long-range weapons will help strengthen Ukraine’s battlefield capabilities.
“The decision to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles is one of those elements that can significantly affect the situation on the battlefield. In combination with other systems, they can become a factor that will radically change the situation,” Sybiha believes.
The minister also said that long-range weapons will only be used in Russia against military targets.
