Russia has shifted its stance: The Kremlin reevaluates its position in negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.

Significant progress has been made regarding a peace settlement in Ukraine, stated Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president’s special representative, after a series of meetings in Washington with the administration of US President Donald Trump. He also acknowledged that the US supports a fair agreement, but during various negotiations, they largely insisted on a strong Ukraine. He also positively regarded the fact that both Russia and the US deem it impossible for Ukraine to join NATO.

Furthermore, Dmitriev agreed that some form of security guarantees might be acceptable. Notably, this marks the first instance where a Kremlin representative has made such a statement, which Politico described as a departure from Moscow’s typical position.

However, Russian spokesperson Dmitry Peskov cautioned that the issue of guarantees is highly complex and still under discussion, making it premature to outline specific parameters.

Dmitriev also announced upcoming talks between Russia and the US, which could occur as soon as this week, focusing on the restoration of Russian-American relations, particularly in economic and investment cooperation.
