Rheinmetall is waiting for several billion-dollar contracts to manufacture ammunition for Ukraine.
According to the company’s general director, Armin Papperger, the contract will allow the German government to supply Ukraine with ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft guns. The document will be signed in the coming weeks, and the first batches will be sent to Ukraine in July. “The government has ordered 300,000 such munitions, and this year we will deliver up to 60,000”, Papperger added.
Rheinmetall expects to receive orders for vehicles, ammunition, electronics, and radar systems worth billions of euros annually. Papperger also said that in the coming months, NATO will publish more accurate guidelines on how much industrial capacity needs to be increased “to ensure the security of Europe and NATO for the next ten years”.
In addition, according to Thierry Breton, the European Commissioner for Military Industry, the EU plans to accelerate the supply of weapons to Ukraine to support the counteroffensive.
