Renovation of the energy system: Ukraine will develop smart power grids, and banks will support projects to restore energy generation.
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine approved the road map for developing smart networks to automate and implement digital solutions at all levels of the energy system.
It is noted that the restoration of objects damaged by Russian attacks is planned to be carried out using smart technologies, and microgrid technologies are more resistant to military damage and natural disasters. Implementing smart grids is expected to reduce network losses by a total of six billion kWh every year.
The National Bank of Ukraine stated that the banking system is ready to prioritize the restoration of the country’s energy-generating capacities and provide financial support to implement relevant projects.
The head of the NBU, Andriy Pyshnyi, clarified that the possibilities for the banking system are in lending. This could be credit support for projects to reconstruct small-generation facilities distributed across the country. Or, much larger projects can be financed, for example, through syndicated lending, where banks pool capital and distribute risk among themselves.
