Putin will not agree to the Trump team’s proposed “peace plan,” but the Kremlin may reconsider it under certain conditions.

Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeev, who is under Western sanctions, said that Putin is likely to reject the peace plan proposed by Trump’s recently appointed special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg.

According to Malofeev, for the talks to be constructive, they must address not only Ukraine’s future but the future of Europe and the world. Moscow will seriously consider a peace agreement only if Trump agrees to discuss other global conflicts, including wars in the Middle East and strengthening Russia’s alliance with China, and recognizes Ukraine as part of the Kremlin’s key interests, the oligarch noted.

Recall that the Kellogg plan provides that Washington will continue to provide Ukraine with weapons to prevent further Russian attacks  – but only if Kyiv agrees to peace talks. The US will also postpone the issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO significantly in exchange for a broad agreement with security guarantees.
