Putin wants a new “truce” to throw a parade in Moscow and is waiting for Ukraine to resume direct talks.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has announced a new “truce” in the war with Ukraine, set to last for three days – from 00:00 on May 8 to 00:00 on May 11. The truce was proclaimed in connection with May 9, when Russia celebrates Victory Day in World War II. The Kremlin’s statement indicates that “the Ukrainian side must join the truce.” The aggressor state claims to be “ready for constructive interaction with international partners” regarding the situation in Ukraine. However, Moscow has cynically threatened to “respond” if Ukraine violates the truce.

The day before, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow expects a signal from Kyiv to resume direct talks but has not observed any action from Ukraine in this regard.

The National Security and Defense Council emphasized that the Kremlin’s spokesman is manipulating the situation. To demonstrate their peacemaking efforts, the Russians should cease fire, yet they continue to obstruct Trump’s initiatives.

US President Donald Trump urged Putin to halt his attacks on Ukraine and sign an agreement to end the war. Regarding the three-day truce, the White House stressed that Trump is focused on achieving a permanent ceasefire.
