Polish and Hungarian farmers will protest at the border against imports from Ukraine.
Polish farmers announced that on February 9, all border crossings with Ukraine will be blocked. In addition, temporary road closures will begin in some voivodships, lasting until March 10.
Farmers are dissatisfied with the EC’s proposal to extend the suspension of import quotas and duties for Ukrainian exports to the EU for another year. At the same time, and for the same reason, Hungarian farmers are preparing to protest on the Ukrainian border in the city of Zahony. In Poland, officials have also announced the strengthening of control and the activation of inspections of Ukrainian agricultural products exported to their country.
As a result, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said governments should resist calls for increased financial support from protesting farmers in Europe.
