Poland wants to introduce additional taxes and quotas for Ukrainian products.
Poland is considering the introduction of an 8% value added tax on oil and restrictions on sugar imports from Ukraine.
Michal Kołodziejczak, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Poland, has supported the coming nationwide farmers’ strike and emphasized: “The border with Ukraine must be very tightly closed.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian agrarians have appealed to their government to prevent a possible deterioration in trade conditions with the EU. They called on authorities to promote the continuation of preferential access to the EU market for Ukrainian agricultural products and to establish a direct dialogue with European partners.
“For the agricultural sector of Ukraine, these preferences were of particular importance, providing the opportunity for Ukrainian exporters to preserve production and jobs and ensure the receipt of foreign exchange during 2022-2023,” the appeal emphasizes.
Maintaining maximum open access to the EU market will be vital for Ukraine’s trade balance in the coming years and the survival of its agricultural sector. On the other hand, under the implementation of restrictions, Ukraine expects a significant reduction in currency exchange.
