Is Valeriy Zaluzhnyi plans to lead Ukraine in the future?

Zaluzhnyi and Zelenskyy

Is the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, being prepared for a political career or even to become president?

Last week, it became known that Zaluzhnyi had decided to resign from military service so that he would have the opportunity to pursue a new career path. The next day, Zelenskyy approved the former commander-in-chief as Ukraine’s new ambassador to the UK. It is evident that Zaluzhnyi is gradually transitioning into a well-recognized political figure, propelled by his excellent reputation, knowledge, popularity, likability, and positive public image. He is a former military man, but with his new role, he will become an experienced, well-recognized diplomat and politician in a few years.

Zelenskyy understands well that, after this war, Ukrainians will need a new face with a spotless reputation, approved by the rest of the world’s political elite, who can lead the country as he has during the first two years of the war. Zelenskyy also understands that there are few good options among Ukrainian politicians to choose from because they are either corrupt, have a bad reputation, or are connected to Putin. For the West to believe in Ukraine and accept it into NATO and the EU, we will need a reputable, experienced, and honest leader who will rebuild and lead our war-torn country into its new future.
