NATO-Ukraine Council meeting in Brussels: Ukraine receives recommendations on reforms that are necessary to join the Alliance.
According to Jens Stoltenberg, NATO foreign ministers discussed Ukraine’s path to NATO entry and agreed that Kyiv would become a member of the Alliance.
“So far, we have provided recommendations on priority reforms, including the fight against corruption, strengthening the rule of law, and supporting human and minority rights“, Stoltenberg clarified during the meeting.
He also assured attendees that the Alliance will continue to support Ukraine on its path to accession and in the fight for its freedom. In addition, NATO is currently transforming a comprehensive support package into a multi-year program, helping Ukraine “transition from the Soviet era to the Alliance era” and “ensure full operational interoperability of the armed forces.”
According to the results of the first meeting, the heads of foreign affairs summed up the results from the implementation of an expanded package of political and practical support for Kyiv and approved the operational priorities for the coming year, which includes energy security, innovation, and cooperation.
