Microsoft warns of increased cyberattacks on Ukraine and its allies.
The Russian Federation will increase its cyber efforts to put pressure on the sources of military and political support for Ukraine, said the general manager of Microsoft’s Digital Threat Analysis Center, Clint Watts. The Microsoft official urged customers to prepare for new Russian cyberattacks this winter. According to Watts, the recent attack by Russian military intelligence in Poland with the help of Prestige ransomware may be a harbinger of Russia’s cyberattacks spreading further beyond the borders of Ukraine. Along with missile strikes and drone attacks, Russia is also conducting additional cyberattacks on Ukrainian and foreign supply chains and operations to influence public opinion. The purpose of these attacks is to undermine Ukraine’s political support from the US, the EU, and NATO and to damage the confidence and determination of Ukrainian citizens.
