Lithuania delivers Ukraine a new defense aid package, and Switzerland eases requirements for arms exports.
On December 20, Ukraine received another package of military aid from Lithuania. It contains necessary field equipment and thousands of dry rations for the Armed Forces.
In 2023, Lithuanian instructors trained about 2,900 Ukrainian military personnel in Lithuania as part of a multinational program in the UK and the EU’s mission.
In 2024, Lithuanian instructors will join the training of about 3,500 Ukrainian military personnel as part of the EU EUMAM mission, Operation Interflex in the UK and Lithuania.
Meanwhile, both houses of the Swiss parliament have approved an amendment to legislation that eases requirements for arms exports. Therefore, the Swiss government can deviate from the criteria for licensing the export of weapons abroad “in exceptional circumstances,” if it corresponds to protecting the interests of foreign policy or security policy. The new amendment, in theory, will allow Switzerland to approve the re-export of weapons to Ukraine.
