Kallas urges the West to stop pressuring Ukraine into talks because Russia doesn’t want peace. But Kellogg believes both countries are ready for talks.

Western capitals need to stop pushing President Zelenskyy into peace talks and instead fulfill their promises of security guarantees for Ukraine, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas said.

“There’s no point in pushing Zelenskyy into talks when Putin doesn’t want to talk. Russia doesn’t want peace. Supporting Ukraine now is much cheaper than enduring war later. Russia hasn’t changed its goals,” she added.

Instead, Kallas stressed that Western countries should do everything they can to strengthen Ukraine’s position now “because the stronger they are on the battlefield, the stronger they are at the negotiating table – if they come to that.”

In turn, Donald Trump’s future special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, stated that both sides are ready for negotiations, and the newly elected US president has the resources and vision to promote a peaceful settlement and end the conflict by the end of 2025.
