Italy, Portugal, and New Zealand have announced new defense package support amounting to several billion dollars.

Italy plans to allocate $1.7B for military aid to Ukraine next year. This is Italy’s share in the total sum of $40B in assistance to Ukraine that is currently being discussed by NATO. The US will provide half of the contribution, flexibly distributed between direct military aid, goods and services, and training, and the remaining $20B will be provided by the European countries of the Alliance.

In the first two years of the full-scale war, Rome gave Kyiv about €1.2B in aid each year. This is the direct cost of weapons and other goods and services.

Assistance to Ukraine from Portugal will reach €220M in 2024, and Lisbon plans to provide the same amount in 2025.

Also, New Zealand announced an aid package to Ukraine for NZD 16M, equivalent to $9.8M. Wellington will allocate $3.68M for military aid and another $6.12M for humanitarian assistance.
