Investments in new European nuclear power plants should amount to more than € 500 B by 2050

, said The EU Commissioner, Thierry Breton. He however added that what the existing nuclear power plants only need is an investment of € 50 B only by 2030. And another € 500 B will be required by 2050 for the new generation stations. Breton’s favors included the following; nuclear energy in the EU’s Green Taxonomy, and classification of environmentally sustainable activities for investors. Two weeks ago, the European Commission announced that to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, nuclear energy and natural gas, despite environmental pollution, may be included in the taxonomy in January 2022.
