In Riyadh, Ukraine and the US discuss the protection of energy facilities and critical infrastructure; indirect talks between Ukraine and Russia are planned.

According to Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, proposals regarding the protection of energy facilities and critical infrastructure were on the agenda in Saudi Arabia on March 23. On March 24, Ukraine and the US may hold further talks, contingent on the outcome of Sunday’s meeting. On the same day, talks between US and Russian officials are scheduled in Saudi Arabia. Washington anticipates that this will facilitate an indirect dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow, stated US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg.

“This week, we are sending technical teams to Saudi Arabia for these indirect talks, where both sides will be present, but in separate rooms,” Kellogg noted.

Putin’s chief foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov, mentioned that the discussions in Riyadh would focus on a ceasefire in the Black Sea, particularly concerning grain supplies, and halting energy attacks.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry indicated that the talks would concentrate on technical, rather than political, issues. The parties would explore various proposals aimed at achieving a ceasefire. Ukraine will provide the US with a list of sites that would be prohibited from Russian attack.
