In January-April, scrap collection in Ukraine decreased by 40.8%
against last year’s corresponding figure to 366,600 tons. And the domestic supply of scrap to metallurgical plants decreased by 49.8% to 292,800 tons, according to the industry association.
It is noted that the export of scrap metal in January-April increased eight times – from 7,100 tons to 56,400 tons. At the same time, imports decreased from 100 tons to 60 tons.
Earlier, market participants predicted exports in the first quarter at 46-50 thousand tons. The actual numbers turned out to be higher. Considering the export index’s growth rate, by the end of the year exports may amount to 300-400,000 tons.
At the same time, it was repeatedly noted that Ukrainian scrap is exported to the EU under gray schemes, through which Ukraine lost more than UAH 350M in export duties.
