In eight months, Ukraine’s seaports have exceeded last year’s transshipment volume.

The Ukrainian maritime corridor’s operation has allowed Ukrainian seaports to record a cargo turnover of 66.8 million tons in January-August 2024, exceeding the previous year’s figure, when the transshipment volume was 62 million tons. Over eight months, the ports increased cargo handling by 77.2%, or 29.1 million tons, compared to last year’s corresponding period.

Overloading of exported agricultural products accounted for 62.4% of cargo turnover (41.7 million tons). In August, the ports increased transshipment by more than 100% compared to the corresponding month last year – up to 6.8 million tons. Transshipment of exported agricultural goods amounted to four million tons, or 59% of the cargo flow.

Note that the January-August 2024 indicator was achieved by six Ukrainian seaports and is 25 million tons less than the cargo turnover from the corresponding period of the pre-war year 2021, when 13 seaports carried out cargo transshipment. Last year, six seaports provided more than 40% of all pre-war cargo traffic, handling almost 62 million tons of cargo against 59 million tons in 2022.
