Hungary has blocked the provision of €18B to Ukraine.
On December 6, in Brussels, at the meeting of finance ministers from the EU member states, there was no green light given regarding €18B in economic aid for Ukraine. Hungary is still blocking these funds to ensure its own financing, journalist Rikard Jozwiak reported. Jozwiak added that there was a very emotional debate during which everyone criticized Budapest, but it failed to produce any results. At the same time, the ministers of the EU member states voted by a qualified majority for the macro-financial assistance plus (MFA+) and an amendment to the financial regulations. “Unfortunately, we could not accept the package. However, this will not cool our ambitions to start allocating our aid to Ukraine from the beginning of January. I am asking the Committee on Economy and Finance to find an alternative solution,” commented the Minister of Finance of the Czech Republic, Zbigniew Stanyura.
