How many Ukrainians use microcredit, and how often?

The services of microfinance organizations are used by about 13% of the adult population of Ukraine. In comparison, the share of borrowers who took a loan to meet their daily needs while waiting for their next payday increased from 42% in 2022 to 67% in 2023.

It is noted that after the invasion by the Russian Federation, 13% of respondents took out microloans for the first time, 46% began to take them more often, and 12%, on the contrary, used them less frequently.

According to the study, 34% of respondents take microloans several times a month. 13% of respondents take microloans every three to five months, 7% once every six months, and 5% take out one microloan a year or less. It is noted that 81% prefer to use microfinance organizations rather than banks, explaining this preference by these companies’ efficiency.

The monthly income of these microfinance clients ranges from ₴15,000 to ₴30,000 for 39% of respondents, while 12% of those surveyed have an income of ₴30,000 to ₴45,000, and 6% – over ₴45,000.
