How have the negotiations between Russia and the US in Saudi Arabia concluded?

Representatives of the US State Department reported that during the talks, the parties agreed to:

  1. Establish a consultation mechanism to address shortcomings in bilateral relations between the US and Russia and to normalize diplomatic relations.
  2. Form appropriate teams that will work to achieve the earliest possible resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, which “will be strong, sustainable, and acceptable to all parties.”
  3. Lay the groundwork for future cooperation on matters of mutual geopolitical interest and explore potentially historic economic and investment opportunities that could arise from successfully resolving the “conflict in Ukraine.”

The US National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, also announced discussions regarding territorial issues and security guarantees.

Additionally, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the EU would need to be involved in the process and reiterated that all parties must be willing to make concessions. He also suggested that the EU might have to consider lifting sanctions.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has characterized the talks as useful, although he has emphasized that Russia opposes a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.
