How has trade between Ukraine and Germany developed since the beginning of the Russian aggression?

In 2023, Germany became the third ($4.9B) largest exporter of goods to Ukraine and the fifth ($2B) largest importer of Ukrainian goods. Last year, exports to Germany recovered compared to 2022’s level and grew by 30%, to 2.7 million tons, but in monetary terms, the figure decreased by 11%, to $2B. For this reason, German imports decreased by 2.6% – to 1.1 million tons – but increased in monetary terms by 10% to $4.9B.

In particular, Ukraine exports agricultural products to Germany (rape – $351M, corn – $120M, soybeans – $92M) and woodworking products ($138M). However, there is also the supply of products with high added value – cable ($240M), furniture ($125M), and pipes ($113M).

The structure of imports from Germany is dominated by cars ($645M), medicine ($355M), petroleum products ($289M), food products, industrial products, and consumer goods.
