Historic moment: what did Ukraine and the US agree on within the 10-year security agreement?
Kyiv and Washington signed a bilateral security agreement in which the US undertakes long-term commitments aimed at supporting Ukraine’s efforts to win the war and deter possible military aggression by the Russian Federation in the future. The US’ assistance will be provided in the following areas: air defense, artillery, armored vehicles, combat aviation, maritime security, cyber security, and critical infrastructure protection, among others.
The US will support Ukraine in developing air defense and anti-missile defense systems, based on the Patriot system, and promote the modernization of the Ukrainian Air Force and the purchase of modern fighter jets. Cooperation on the development of Ukraine’s defense and industrial base is foreseen thanks to joint defense research and support designed to increase the production of critical weapons.
The agreement also defines the main directions for long-term US assistance in Ukraine’s economic recovery, the implementation of reforms, and continued support for the Ukrainian peace formula.
The document records US support for Ukraine’s future membership in NATO and refers to holding Russia accountable and exploring ways to use Russian assets to support Ukraine.
