High gas prices in Asia – a 20% premium over EU — are causing diversion of LNG cargoes away from EU to Asia,

according to S&P Global Platts. LNG deliveries to EU terminals in July were down by almost one third compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019. For Europe, LNG is the main alternative to Russian pipeline gas.
