Germany wants to increase spending on military aid to Ukraine fivefold.
The plan for the coming years foresees an increase in aid from €3B to more than €15B, writes Spiegel. The Bundestag budget committee must approve the funds allocation. As the publication writes, its members will not decline the initiative because the cross-party majority in the German parliament supports Ukraine.
Germany plans to purchase air defense equipment, armored tracked vehicles, artillery, and ammunition for German vehicles, as well as to provide maintenance and support.
In the current fiscal year, Berlin allocated €2.2B for “modernization of partner states in security, defense, and stabilization. This money goes to the purchase of a significant amount of weapons for Ukraine, as well as for the replacement of its equipment”.
In 2023, Germany plans to increase this amount by another €3.2B.
