Germany is trying to obtain air defense aid for Ukraine and plans joint weapons manufacturing.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who arrived in Kyiv on June 30, stated that Germany is attempting “by all means” to ensure Ukraine receives additional air defense systems to counter Russian attacks. Negotiations are ongoing with European allies and the US, and Germany is also considering transferring some of its reserve air defense systems.
Wadephul stated that Putin aims to use force to seize Ukraine and seeks its surrender. As well, Russia depends on its allies to weaken international support. “Putin does not want peace. He wants conquest and conquest at any cost. But we will stand firmly with Ukraine so it can continue to defend itself effectively,” Wadephul emphasized.
Germany plans to continue supporting Ukraine and using sanctions to limit Putin’s ability to fund his war. Work in this area continues, with strong pressure being applied on the EU and G7 partners.
Wadephul also mentioned an agreement with Ukraine’s foreign minister to enhance cooperation in defense and joint ventures, enabling Ukraine to produce weapons faster and more independently. Such collaboration is a “real trump card for both countries’ development,” he added.
