Germany and Ukraine are discussing the production of long-range weapons in Ukraine.

While the German government no longer plans to publicly announce specifics of defense assistance, relevant decisions are already being prepared behind the scenes. In particular, discussions are ongoing regarding how Berlin can assist Ukrainian enterprises in producing modern long-range weapons. This involves strategic support for Ukraine’s defense sector, aimed at enhancing its ability to independently manufacture weapons. This topic is expected to be a key focus during the in-person meeting of Chancellor Friedrich Merz with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, scheduled for May 28 in Berlin.

In his most recent speech, Zelenskyy directed a significant increase in the production of interceptor drones, for which increased funding from Ukraine’s international partners is anticipated. Additionally, he called for dedicated funding for the Ukrainian ballistic program to expedite missile production.

As is known, Ukraine has developed a new interceptor drone, which has already destroyed 20 air targets, and Spetstechnoexport reported that by mid-2025, Ukraine will be ready to start producing its own cruise and ballistic missiles.
