German Chancellor Angela Merkel visits Ukraine on August 22 – one week before President Zelenskiy meets President Biden in the White House.

Foregoing Zelenskiy’s invitation to Merkel to attend Ukraine’s 30^th Independence celebrations on Aug. 24, Merkel will talk with Zelenskiy about Nord Stream 2 and Russia’s occupation of half of the Donbas, according to Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Zelensky’s chief of staff.
