For the first time in 20 years, Ukraine extracted more than one billion cubic meters of gas from new wells in 2023.

State gas mining company UkrGasVydobuvannya produced more than a billion cubic meters of gas from new wells that were put into operation in 2023. This is the best annual production from new wells since 2002, noted Naftogaz.

In 2023, 86 new wells were put into operation, and 24 had an initial flow rate of more than 100,000 cubic meters per day. The most productive well was launched in April 2023, and its output reaches 580,000 cubic meters daily. In November, a gas well at a depleted field in the Carpathians produced a record flow rate for the region. And on December 19, two more wells with a capacity of more than 200,000 cubic meters of gas per day were opened.

Increasing production from new wells has been possible thanks to utilizing new technical capabilities and infrastructure modernization in old fields thought to be depleted and previously inaccessible layers.
