Following Russian attacks, Ukrainian gas production has decreased by 40%, forcing it to import fuel.

After Russian missile strikes on gas infrastructure, gas production in Ukraine has decreased by 40%. In February and March, Ukraine plans to import up to 800 million cubic meters of blue fuel from Europe. Before the attacks, Ukraine produced about 52 million cubic meters of gas per day, and in the winter, it consumed from 110 to 140 million cubic meters per day.

Gas reserves in Ukraine’s storage facilities are small, but with the planned imports and domestic gas production, the country will be able to survive the heating season without imposing any restrictions on industry or the civilian population. Ukraine will begin pumping gas for the 2025/2026 winter season in the spring in order to accumulate approximately 13 billion cubic meters of gas before next winter.

The Naftogaz group notes that the gas situation in Ukraine is difficult, but not critical and remains under control. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, state-owned facilities have been subjected to 15 missile and drone attacks, and production facilities have suffered significant damage.
