European Parliament Elections: The European People’s Party is leading, and Ursula Von der Leyen seeks to create a majority with pro-Ukrainian forces.

According to preliminary data, the European People’s Party (EPP) is leading the elections in the European Parliament. The same political force has a majority under the current composition of the European Parliament. Tentatively, the EPP will have 184 seats out of 720. The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) appears to be second. Third place is still occupied by the centrist Renew Europe political group, followed by two far-right groups, the European Conservatives and Reformists and Identity and Democracy.

In this, the far-right movement will achieve success thanks to the results in France and Germany. However, the forecast shows that the centrist groups still maintain their unity.

If a centrist coalition majority is formed in the European Parliament again following the elections, the current president of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen, is likely to retain her position. After announcing the preliminary election results, she said that the EPP seeks to build a centrist union with a pro-Ukrainian position in the European Parliament. Elections to the EP started on June 6 and lasted until June 9.
