Europe has backed down from sending its peacekeepers to Ukraine and is seeking alternatives.

Amid discussions about deploying troops to Ukraine to provide security, European nations are also considering other options. This is due to political and logistical challenges faced by these countries when it comes to sending peacekeepers, along with the likelihood of resistance from Russia and the United States regarding their plans.

“They are abandoning ground troops and are reevaluating their actions toward something more sensible,” stated one European diplomat.

Another remarked that “when Ukraine was in a more favorable position, the idea of sending troops seemed appealing,” but due to the current US stance, that perspective has changed.

However, the initiative has not been completely discarded, and individual countries may still opt to send troops. For instance, Finland is not prepared to send military personnel as peacekeepers to Ukraine during the initial phase of the ceasefire, but this option remains on the table as part of an ongoing peace process.
