After the summit, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that they are in accord with four points that will enable Ukraine to pursue a peace agreement and end the war from a position of strength. The four points:
- European leaders will continue to provide military aid and increase economic pressure on Russia.
- They agreed that any lasting peace must ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty and security, and that Ukraine must be involved in the negotiations leading to an agreement being finalized.
- If a peace agreement is reached, Britain will continue to enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities to deter future invasion.
- A coalition of the willing will be formed to deploy a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine to safeguard the agreement’s implementation.
However, according to Starmer, these efforts must be backed by the US to succeed. The head of the British government also announced that the country is allocating £1.6B ($2B) that will allow Ukraine to purchase more than 5,000 air defense missiles. Additionally, Ukraine will receive the first £752M tranche this week from a British loan, part of the G7’s ERA Loans for Ukraine Initiative.
