EU ambassadors have agreed on a draft security agreement with Ukraine, and Belgium has already started negotiations.

EU ambassadors are believed to have already agreed on a draft bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and the EU to continue the G7 declaration on security guarantees.

The draft text contains provisions that the EU undertakes, in the event of a new aggression against Ukraine, to hold consultations regarding its needs within 24 hours. The EU also promises to ensure further supply of military aid, help with military training, demining, reforming the defense sector, cooperating in countering hybrid threats and cyber-attacks, and help with reconstruction. In addition, the project allegedly contains a separate provision that excludes the direct participation in hostilities by “EU military countries”.

At the same time, Ukraine and Belgium started negotiations to conclude a security cooperation agreement.

“The achieved progress based on the results of the first round creates real opportunities for signing the document soon,” the Office of the President of Ukraine noted.
