The purpose of the construction of Nord Stream-2 was to cut off Ukraine from the gas transit business. By leaving Ukraine’s gas pipe empty, the owners of the project will cut off billions of dollars from Ukraine’s fiscal coffers. The Zelensky government understands it clearly and fights back to block Nord Stream-2 and to find allies to support his intentions. Ukraine has to make sure it has enough gas supply in its storage facilities to live through this winter, otherwise, it might be a very challenging heating season. Making investment in the renewable energy sector not just relevant, but essential for the nation to move into more sustainable methods of powering business and heating during the inclement seasons.
