Due to the war, Ukrainian farmers have already lost more than $50B, and the heat will deprive Ukraine of 5 million tons of harvest.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the agricultural infrastructure of Ukraine has suffered losses of more than $50B, said the Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, Denys Marchuk. He emphasized that the enemy began to make intensive targeted strikes on the fields to destroy the crops. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Odesa Oblast, Kherson Oblast, as well as Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, where shelling is ongoing, such strikes are constantly carried out.
“In Kherson Oblast, there are many cases when the Russians launch a drone to burn the crops. People who demined their fields of 100-400 hectares lose 20-30 hectares at a time,” the expert added.
He also said that the volume of harvested grain and oil crops may decrease by 5 million to 77 million tons this season due to abnormal heat, which affects yields, particularly of sunflowers, corn, and soybeans. This is a good indicator of the harvest, considering that this season the export potential reaches 57.5 million tons of grain and oil crops.
