Due to imports from Ukraine, five neighbors of Ukraine have asked the EU to continue financial support for their agricultural sectors.

Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania called on the European Commission to continue financial support for farmers affected by Ukrainian grain imports throughout 2024, Bulgarian Minister of Agrarian Policy Kyrylo Vatev said.

“We had another conversation with the Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski. I raised this issue with him again because we have a letter from the Commission that they are proposing to keep the support ceiling at €280,000 and to keep it going until March 31,” he said.

According to the Bulgarian minister, he met with colleagues from Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania, where they agreed on their positions and discussed the situation.

“The situation is the same in all countries, and we agreed that together we will ask for new assistance for our farmers for 2024 because they are actually in a disadvantageous position,” Vatev added.
