Damages to Ukrainian housing already amount to more than $54B.
As of the end of May 2023, the amount of direct damage caused to Ukraine’s housing stock as a result of the full-scale war is more than $54B. According to research by KSE, this is more than a third of the total direct damage to Ukraine’s infrastructure and assets, according to data calculated by the institute’s analysts.
Of the total direct housing damage, the most significant share, $46.6B, was caused by the destruction of and damage to multi-apartment buildings. According to the latest data, 18,600 such buildings have been affected: 13,200 were damaged, and 5,400 were destroyed. Due to hostilities, more than 144,000 private houses were destroyed, and the damage is estimated at $7B.
The total number of damaged housing objects as of June 2023 is over 163,000. The total area of damaged or destroyed objects is 87 million square meters, which is 8.6% of the total area of the housing stock of Ukraine.
